Note the canting keel - red bulb - at second #50. This is the primary reason these VOR boats could reach 40 kts on a broad reach, like the Black Pearl is doing here. The VOR was a sail boat race around the world by seven nearly identical boats with small crews under astonishingly difficult conditions. One boat sank and a man died.
