| hughgrection43 | It's not called AO-Hell for nothing |
| xxangstxx | the surprize of this would be "anyone that is surprized at this"biz as usual@AOL |
| clontarf_x | That was insane. I work as a CSR at an ISP that that representataive should be shot... |
| mattthom01 | That's exactly what it is like to cancel AOL. Takes forever, and you just have to keep telling them to cancel it in spite of all the speeches they give about the "benefits" of AOL. |
| mattthom01 | oh, and apparently the AOL got fired after AOL heard about this |
| liquidschwarrtz | Yikes...this guy was just ACHING to get yelled at. |
| ohiocity | We recently went through 3 days of internet-iterruptus and the AOL csr's patiently troubleshooted. We had screwed up our wireless router. Thanks AOL! |
| timewarnerfraudsters | Try calling Edward Adler, the moron at Time Warner that spins and misprepresents for a living. Dont worry he will put out a press release that says AOL doesnt do this and that it isnt a company policy. He will lie through his teeth. |
 | tjcarita | in 03 I called AOL to cancell them. After about 5 minutes of the same treatment I told them I'm calling my credit card to stop payment and hung up the phone. I have been without AOL for 3+ years now and loveing it. AOL CAN KISS MY ASS ! |
 | tjcarita | LIke to see a show on "60 Minutes |
| tigerlily48 | I cancelled my AOL account several years ago. I had virtually the same experience. Things have not changed, same old BS endlessly. I will never deal with AOL or associated companies again. |
| higbe25 | Ask to speak to a supervisor if you are not totally frustrated with your initial contact at the company. I tell everyone I know to cancel their service with AOL. Lying and intimidation appear to be standard operating procedures for the company |
| bigguy717 | anyone reading this account this event with "AOL" will be on live today 6/20 on cnbc at 4pm or 7pm not sure which but tomorrow at cnbc in the morning eastern time 720 am and no time available yet at sometime in the morning of the21 on the today show 4 |
| vsafuto | Want some real fun? Try cancelling the account of a friend who has died. They put me through the wringer, and I had to threaten legal action. |
| nnjstrom95 | AOL shut a friends acct off when her teen son had accessed porn and they wouldn't turn it back on because she wasn't the primary acct holder. 45 min she argued that the primary acct holder (her husband) was deployed in Iraq. He had to call from Iraq. |
| fr8train316 | a friend of mine's mother just died, he called to close her account. After they requested a certified death certificate and verification from a third party, he told them to feel free to ruin the credit of a dead woman. |
| auntb_01 | Oh This is nothing I told him my computer was dead and it would be a whilebefore i would get another one.He just kept on and i just finally got pissed and told him if i did get on line again i would use a nother provider because of this. |
| auntb_01 | this is not just on person this is AOL this was the second time i tried to shut off AOL. they charge you one price till you try to shut them off then you can get the same service for half the price. JUST give me the low price to begin with ! ! |
| gophergas | I had an almost identical experience as well. Tried to cancel, and the rep kept trying to add 5 more months of free "service." I finally just started repeating "cancel my account... cancel my account... cancel my account..." while she rambled on. |
| questos | When i moved to another state my wife insisted we try that 30 day offer. You can tell AOL train the workers to be that insistant and selective hearing. This john guy doing it by what he was told, sadly john wasn't bright and not work there. |
| ny7468 | he's an a** Hole, sorry that happened to u,......... |
| jphustman | I saw some people complaining about you not telling him your recording the conversation. They have a disclaimer saying the phone call might be recorded, so the CSR already knows he's being recorded. |
| maripink29 | Same thing happened to me..I was on the phone for at least 30 minutes then after I finally got through to him, he said let me transfer you to the person that handles the cancellations..that was another 15 minutes of rambling on and on |
| bleuboo | I signed onto AOL for their free 45 day trial. When the free trial was up, I went to cancel. They gave me 2 more months free. After that 2 months I tried canceling again...another 2 months free. This went on for THREE WHOLE YEARS! Thanks AOL you MORONS! |
| lazing | 545 hrs in a month div by 24= 22.708 days that month. How about speculative waking hours? 545 div by 18= over 30 days. So, John is claiming Vincent was online EVERY DAY for the entire time he was awake??? If you're gonna lie, be credible. |
| jkichlin | Business as usual. The EXACT same thing happens when cancelling ISPs, credit cards, insurance, bank accounts, or anything else. This country is so sad when it comes to this stuff. I have my share of screaming matches only to get hung up on multiple times |
| teach1 | GO Vincent!!! It is about time someone had the sense to get "this" stuff out to others and in the open! How was recording the AOL guy legal? I thought you were not allowed to tape anyone without their permission? I HATE AOL for exactly what happened . |
| kittykates | I work in insurance, and I would NEVER harass a client for cancelling. I thank them for their business, let them know I'm here, and tell them to have a nice day. |
| kosman | AOL "cancellation reps" get a wage of $6 an hour, but for every account they "save" from cancellation they get a $3 - $5 kickback. |
 | hapgail | AOL is full of flaming Buttheads |
| dosqueen | I had the same problem with AOL in 97. After putting me through the third degree, they finally agreed to cancel, the rep gave me a 15 digit cancellation number - in case they accidently charged me after the cancellation! Ridiculous! |
| purpyool | Man, I would have either (1) Asked for his Supervisor straight away, or (2) hung up and rung back in the hope of getting a different operator. Man at the point where he said "You WILL listen to me" I just would have lost and started screaming at him. :0 |
 | thunderphoenix | lollol you should of seen the look on my dads face when he tried to cancel "JUST CANCEL IT MOTHER ******, RIGHT ******* NOW MOTHER ******" lol its excraurterd but it was soooo funny |
| trance123 | Been through the same crap! Had to keep saying "CANCEL!", "CANCEL!", "CANCEL" over and over. What a nightmare! I will never use AOL again! |
| scarhead101 | I had to go through the same thing when I cancelled last year - unfortunately it was an outsourced Indian call centre. |
| bunnieknit | In '03 after using the 6 mos Free Trial I pd for 2 months and then tried to cancel. They gave me 3 more free months., three times. I had 15 mos of full service & only pd for 2. My dh finally got them to cancel after a very heated discussion |
| stevenr4472 | It is illegal to record phone calls |
| buffaloss | It's not illegal to record calls in both Nevada and Rhode Island, and i'm sure there are a couple more. You don't think the tools on "crank yankers" are asked for their permission, do you? |
| gruntbuggly | It is most certainly NOT illegal to record phone calls. Companies do it all the time "for training purposes". Where it can be troublesome is when you try to use a recorded call in court. Some states allow them as evidence if at least one party knows. |
| professor_gauss | After two unsuccessful attempts at canceling my AOL account over the phone, I sent a fax containing all of the relevant information plus a simple statement telling them to cancel my account. Within a week my account was canceled. No muss, no fuss! |
| jrsposter | I got the same hard time three years ago when I tried to cancel my AOL account. That is the reason that I would NEVER join AOL again for ANY reason. I wonder why they didn't think the story would get around. Thanks to Vincent for this public service. |
| repressd | A few years ago, my roommate tried to cancel her AOL account. The rep asked if anyone else lived there, and wanted my roommate to get me on the phone to see if I wanted to start an AOL account! I said HELL NO!! Ex-roommate still has AOL to this day. |
| drpepper1998 | I HAD AOL FOR 8 YEARS DAMN IT. THAT COMPANY SCARRED ME FOR LIFE |
| damgood85 | I have had my mom on AOL for six years now. we have never paid for it, i just keep calling to cancel it and they keep giving me more free time. |
| deefp | My mother has had nothing but problems trying to cancel AOL too. First off they won't let her cancel because it is under my father's name and he's been dead for 2 years. They said they were going to mail a form to her and they never did. AOL SUCKS! |
| f1ared | That is basically the same conversation I had, except my guy wasnt such a jerk |
| drpepper1998 | my parents died in a horrible AOL accident... |
| abefroman | AOL, its knowledge, its power, IT SUCKS!!!!!! |
| abefroman | At least the person you got was fluent in English |
| mbeverlygill | Yes, this guy was a jerk, but obviously he was trained to be that aggressive. AOL has a lot of nerve letting him take all the blame. They should have apologized for their crappy business practices. |
| shamus7792003 | this rep was a bit extreme; but many reps in call centres bear the brunt of peoples frustration. that is why there is so much turn over. when it is especially busy and reps are just doing what is required as a part of their job and get screamed at it p |
| hottman541 | I had the same problem with AOL. Only they sent me a bill stating I owed over $1000 for 6 or 7 accounts I never had or used. After arguing the point, almost a week passed before we finally got through to a supervisor with a little common sense. AOL BLOWS |
| shamus7792003 | ....and reps get screamed at, it makes them want to scream right back. that AOL guy was a jerk, but it does raise a point that only people who have worked in call centres understand. don't complain about here alone or argue with a rep who can't change |
 | thunderphoenix | AOL should get thier stuff straight and not try have the holder keep the account like myspace "cancel account" never cancels |
| shamus7792003 | ...don't waste time arguing with a rep who can't change the rules or who is just doing his job, it only creates frustration in both people. people who work in these professions are often looking for other work. if you want to change the 1-800 number ex |
| shamus7792003 | ....if you want to change the way these 1-800 number companies deal with their customers, take the time to do the research. e-mail, write letters, send faxes to the CEO's, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Board of Directors, Shareholders Meetings, etc. |
| shamus7792003 | i am a rep myself and i am giving you an insider's secret; harass the upper management telling them what you want the companies to be able to do for them and to change their policies; arguing with reps, it is pointless! they often sympahtize but can't ad |
| shamus7792003 | ...reps often sympathize but can't do anything about it. many callers are somewhat understanding, but i have had to hang up on the odd rude person! take the time, make the effort and bombard senior management; this is how you truly will affect change i |
| shamus7792003 | ...this is how you change corporate america and the one size fits all mentality. this is how you fight bureacracy! reps can't change a thing; they can't even pass any feedback up the chain of command. they are paid to defend a company's policy.... |
| shamus7792003 | companies run their call centres like factories, trying to cram the calls in as cheaply as they can. that is why the 1-800 number experience is such a poor one no what the industry. you can threaten to go to another company, but it will eventually be t |
| shamus7792003 | most all large companies train their reps a certain way. don't be on a call too long, try to sell to a caller, issue fake empathy statements. it may be a real pain and time consuming, but if thousands and millions of americans harass the upper manageme |
| downwestinaz | easiest way to do this is if they wont cancel or give you any sh** is just let them know you will cancel the credit.debit card you are you using so they cant bill you anymore so they can cancel it or youll get it for free i got 8 months free this way |
| shamus7792003 | search company websites, search investing websites...eventually you will find the upper amangement info that reps won't be able to release to callers. this is the only way you will change the mindset of large companies....!!!!!!! |
| shamus7792003 | i know of a friend who worked for one company's call centre, kept getting called by a customer who wanted something done about a cell phone account and could get no results...somehow this customer found out CEO info and called faxed and harrassed the CEO |
| shamus7792003 | ...this customer harassed the CEO daily for a week and the CEO called the call centre telling them to give the customer whatever he wanted just to shut the customer up! |
| shamus7792003 | in response to downwestinaz comments, aol won't send you to collections...i have never worked for them but had friends who did...but some companies will send you to collections for nonpayment and report to equifax if you have not formally cancelled a ser |
| shamus7792003 | if this ever happens to you...contact your state attorney general's office. (it is not often you get insider call center information....so take advantage of it if you can.) (AOL cancellation reps must have a save account quota of 50% per week ) |
| forsberg | Every try cancelling a credit card? I thought that was more of a pain than when I tried cancelling my AOHELL |
| jdr54 | I was a CSR for 3 years. Despite the fact that our policies were nowhere as bad as the AOL nightmare I'm reading about, I still almost always sided with the customer (except for the times when customers were clearly trying to scam us |
| jdr54 | using counterfiet coupons or rebate scams). I didn't give a d**n if I was being recorderd or not. The company could fire me if they didn't like it. |
| jdr54 | using counterfiet coupons or rebate scams). I didn't give a d**n if I was being recorderd or not. The company could fire me if they didn't like it. |
| richiefl | i worked for aol. the departments all make between $9.00 and $13.00 an hour. They are trained to do this. They get in trouble for not follwing the rules. This is how it goes for all departments in AOL. |
| sexykisses1978 | I called to cancel my AOL account once and they just wouldn't let me do it and they kept giving me the run around so I closed the account that it came out of and after 6 months of free AOL they finally realized they weren't getting payed |
| cedarpoint247 | Who wants aol anyway. Free or not. Its spyware that you pay for. And its selfish at that!! It "blocks" all other spyware and viruses. |
| rewinddream | This rep handled it incorrectly, but just remember that any rep you speak with is just doing their jobs. |
| mancore | Just doing their jobs is a crock of S***! Just because your job is scamming people doesn't make it right. If you had any sense of decency, you wouldn't take such a job to begin with! |
| nulynes | I used AOL once as well, they were seriously a pain in the rear to get rid of. It was kind of the same deal over and over and over again. |
| ambgldn | I used to work for AOL and this is exactly what the train their reps to do. Potential reps spend 5 20-hour weeks in training before they let them take 'real' calls and if you don't save enough accounts you will be let go. |
| lydia71 | Go Vincent.. Damn You went through hell..I work for T-Mobile and we do one save attempt and that is it. If customer declines we cancel. OMG free benefit offered ..Dang that is crazy!! |
| puebloguy3 | I worked as a CSR for two years, and spent a year working for entertaining maven's catalog sales. We were put through DAILY abuses from customers and angry individuals telling us "SHE DESERVES TO GO TO JAIL AND SO DO YOU!".... Heard this at least three |
| shabo | You would think that AOL would take a hint... When AOL bought Time Warner and they merged the names to AOL/Time Warner, the stocks of the company dropped. When AOL dropped their name from the company title, stocks rose again! AOL should wisen up. |
| hookiefrookie | haha i work in an aol call center, tech side though. theyre going nuts about this call. you have to be kinda dumb to use aol in the first place, its twice as much and all the errors. sherlock 46npqe what?! |
| lacybunny | A friend worked for them and hasn't worked for them for 3 yrs. Every other month, they turn off her account for non-pymt. She tells them she is paying for it and hasn't worked there for 3 yrs. |
| culberto | The computer registery has to be hacked to get rid of AOL!! Uninstall won't do it. |
| jacksub | AT&T is suks too!!! Charge me 99 dollars for a lousy modem~!! and force me to have a house phone account to get the INternet!!! |
| frankie088 | I was w/AOL for 8yrs, the last 2 were a nightmare even with numerous credits. In '97 I went 'round w/them over a $300+ charge on my cc (I won)...they chgd my best friend for TWO accts for over a yr & refused to credit her 4 the bogus acct she NEVER USED! |
| spiderwoman | The "I was just doing my job," excuse doesn't scan. That's the same as the Germans after the holocaust saying, "I was just following orders." That's the mentality that's killing the U.S. |
| cryyingfreeman | Time passes, nothing changes... Back in 1998, I got billed for a month because AOL didn't cancel my account when I thought they did. Had a webpage back then where people came a complained. Weird AOL still has any customer. They all must be on hold... |
| cryyingfreeman | oh yeah, forgot the fun part: the "real" phone number to cancel the account appeared on my bank statement right next to the charge for the month I never used. AOL = EVIL |
| cryyingfreeman | oh yeah, forgot the fun part: the "real" phone number to cancel the account appeared on my bank statement right next to the charge for the month I never used. AOL = EVIL |
| myrrdynlok | funny how Vince had to call in over 170 times, thats right over 170 times to get that horrible experience |
| gurugal | I called AOL many times trying to cancel my account. They were horrible - similar to John. But as one person said, the trick is to FAX your info in. They cancel right away. |
| looneyonthepath | Way to go Vincent! One more problem not to have to worry about for people, glad I never got on AOL. Now try finding a phone number to call BMG music to cancel an account. The only way is to google it . Someone posted it which saved me much frustration. |
| matugama | Over 10yrs ago I was a satisfied user of AOL and persuaded several friends to join. Their service deteriorated. I cancelled the account &stopped payment. AOL then put agressive debt collectors to harass & intimidate me by phone. I am 73 years old. |
| falc0tempestade | when yalll cancel AOL make sure you uninstall the software if anyone clicks it and opnes it back up it reactivates it. i used to work there and dealt with thousands of dollars in charges for that very reason |
| aolsucks | WAY TO GO VINCENT!!! ALL YOU AOL FOLKS NEED TO GET NEW JOBS & STOP ANNOYING THE HECK OUT OF YOUR CUSTOMERS! HOW DO YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELVES...DOING THIS DAY AFTER DAY!? CUSTOMER SERVICES?!? WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!? MORE LIKE: CUSTOMER NOT SERVICED! |
| goldraine | I feel sorry you man. I have AOL currently, but I'm not gonna be the one who has to cancel it, it'll be my ex-stepfather MUAHAHAHA! |
| whompyyyy | I had AOL and tried to cancel. They said it was cancelled but I kept getting billed for it and everytime I called they appologized and "gave"me 2 months free, but continued to bill me |
| whompyyyy | They said they did not give refunds, so I finally had to go to my bank and put stop payments on AOL & Compuserve then received a bill from CS for 6 months service which I didn't even have!!! |
| wiggywoo | to "aolsucks" that was a pretty ignorant thing to say, but I will answer your questions for you. Clearly you have never had to work in this kind of situation. It's never easy to just quit your job. Some people really can't find anything else. |
| wiggywoo | I worked in a place like that while I was in college. I lived in a REALLY small town, and there was NOTHING else. It was so depressing getting up in the morning. You're treated like dirst by everyone--the supervisors and the customers. |
| wiggywoo | Oops, that should be "dirt" I also hated bothering the customers but I had no choice. I had no other way to support myself, because the small town was inundated by college students--almost double the normal population during the school year. |
| wiggywoo | The rules were really rigid. It's almost like a Nazi environment. I even got yelled at because I laughed on the phone with a customer who was constantly cracking jokes. (He might have been high or something--but it was WAY funny) |
 | gordon | lol!!! |
| moodyfrog76 | I had the same kind of problems with AOL in 1999. Same old crap. I hate them. I did hang up and call back several times and I spoke w/a supervisor. I actually had to dispute a charge after cancelling it. I also got a confirmation cancellation number |
| alwazprotected | I'm an AOL employee and make more money than most.thanks for your support my family loves you. AOL average pay is 35k but I make more then that and benifits are outo of this world. AOL is here to stay, trust me smileing all the way to the bank. |
| alwazprotected | We are still the LARGEST Internet Service in the World! and we are no longer hard to cancel. call us and see. |
| alwazprotected | |
| mgirl0 | Had AOL for years and they wouldn't let me cancel over the phone. Finally my sister said what are you calling them for, she told me to go to keyword cancel and it tells you how to cancel. You don't talk to anyone. |
| sportyjockgirl16 | Lol!!! I applied to work at AOL once, because they pay $14.00 and the whole job is almost complete retention if you don't even stay on the phone long enough to try and save accounts they fire you! When I found out about this all I could do was laugh. :016 |
| sportyjockgirl16 | I'm so glad I didn't get the job I HATE AOL ANYWAYS and GOOD on ya Vincent!! |
| alwazprotected | you didn't get the job cause your not hirable or desirable...........aol only hires smart people and you don't fit the discription |
| genabea | same thing happened to me more than once. each time i aked to speak to a supervisor the rep hung up in my face. i was still charged for using AOL even though I cancelled mulitiple times. that's crazy! i thought I was the only one that happened to.... |
| alwazprotected | oh poor you. you all can stop you b*tching and complaining. if you have a high speed broadband connection that your paying for already you can now use aol with it for FREE! |
| writeantiques | Guys, I have a foolproof method. It takes two minutess tops. Tell them you've just been made redundant at work. You're devastated, heartbroken, you don't know how you're going to manage. You're broke, and you can't pay the subscription. "Ok sir." Done. |
| mutebanana | Due to personal health, I hadnt used AOL for years, forgot my S/N & ne security questions. My bank told me they couldnt stop the payments, i had to cancel my card. Even though doing this AOL still manage to take money from my bank. |
| duannalee | I am still battling to truly cancel AOL. I closed my bank account, so now they mailed me a past-due notice! Yes, for charges AFTER I closed it. I have had a six year nightmare with AOL. It started when I loaded the free trial. |
| duannalee | For the last 2 years I had a special rate, to keep me from canceling of $8 per month. After trying to cancel (with a pleasant female CSR), I was given a special deal at $4.95. But immediately started getting debits of $35 plys 14.95 per month. |
| duannalee | One for dial-up and one for hi-speed connections. I was told that someone was exceeding the dialup allowance. They tried to say it was for a user ID that had never been used. After battling for more than a month, I got a $70 credit, but then got |
| duannalee | $69.99 debited right after it. Then I called and got "John" That was hell. A few more "holds", mistransfers, and excuses, and I was told I was finally cancelled. They would give me credits or investigate the reason I was getting charges.... |
| duannalee | because I had cancelled! I called back to make sure I was cancelled. I put a stop-payment first & then closed my checking account. So then they started mailing me invoices! I've tried to start a Class Action lawsuit but still haven't found an attorney |
| duannalee | Anyone know of a CLASS ACTION SUIT in progress? If I succeed in starting one, I'll post it here. |
| duannalee | Correction: They would NOT give me credits not investigate the reasons... Oh, by the way, Vincent tried 170 times before he got "John"? You must be an AOL employee (the lying gave it away). |
| alwazprotected | you really need to get a life. aparently this site is not posting my comments. I stated it before and I'll state it again. AOL IS NO LONGER HARD TO CANCEL! YOU CAN EVEN GET AOL FOR FREE IF YOU HAVE A BROADBAND CONNECTION THROUGH ANOTHER COMPANY. |
 | arrsea | I think that was me on my fifth attempt to cancel five years ago. |
| buildinghead | alwazprotect, who are you kidding, no one likes AOL, it is going the way of the DoDo bird. i am sorry you take it so personally, and you openly confess that the money makes you their whore, but life will go on |
| alwazprotected | being a hater is not very becoming of you |
| jpesci | alwazprotect, you are such a fool. You also may want to learn how to spell "description" before inferring that someone else is stupid. |
| alwazprotected | your on the giving end of aol and I'm on the receiveing end and I'm the fool? you better think again |
| buildinghead | time warner's shares dropped 30 ercent when they added the AOL name, post merger, then picked all the way back up when they sebsequently dropped the AOL name. This proves that AOL ruins lives. |
| buildinghead | AOL employees may make a lot of money, i can't comment as i do not know, but politicians and drug dealers also realize a lucrative remuneration (that means income alwazprotect), and all three professions are ruining America. |
| alwazprotected | whats your point? |
| buildinghead | you aren't very smart |
| alwazprotected | you make how much money a year doing what you do? and I make over 40k a year taking phone calls and I'm not very smart? hummm...........think again my friend |
| alwazprotected | by the way putfiles, that recording is about 3 months old now. you can change it to something else. thats old news |
| buildinghead | OH MY GOD!!!! OVER 40K! LOOK OUT DONALD TRUMP, ALWAYZPROTECT IS ON THE WAY, AND JUST FROM MAKING PHONE CALLS!!! there is a revolution brewing now, the serfs will revolt when they find out how easy it is to make a whopping 40k |
| alwazprotected | um, I said over 40k stupid. and I don't make calls, I received them. listen, you can say what you'd like about aol but I can asure you that AOL will always be in business |
| buildinghead | oh, now i feel awful, you said over 40 thousand, you must have meant 3 million, since that is what AOL pays all its employees, and you don't even have to make phone calls, you receive them! why, silly me here i am getting calls for free. |
| buildinghead | at least i have the satisfaction of knowing that AOL rated 10th out of ten (last)in consumer digest's 2006 ranking of internet providers. oh, i almost forgot, i also have the satisfaction of knowing that i am not a loser wasting my life working for AOL. |
| alwazprotected | if you have time to sit around and read consumer digest you must not have a job or a life for that matter. ok we're 10th but still have more members than all the other internet service combined. did you know that smarty arty? |
 | gordon | ^ ha ha sucks that youll be losing all those membership fees tho. good luck in the ad market rather than subscription... |
| crazytales562 | 5mins? Lucky. It took me around 20. |
| alwazprotected | gordon I wouldn't say it sucks because our member ship will increase and we will still be the largest internet service in the world, and companies pay more than aol would make off of membership. so I'm looking forward to the increase in pay |
| buildinghead | what's the difference between an AOL employee and a bucket of poop? - the bucket |
| buildinghead | the only reason AOL has so many customers is cause they won't let people cancel their subscritptions, stupid AOL |
| alwazprotected | I don't believe thats the case. but if it is smart move on our part. your a loser admit it. you got screwed out of some money now your trying to get revenge but you keep forgetting revenge is mine saith the Lord |
| buildinghead | hahahaha, now AOL is God? you moron. i think AOL is more like the anti-Christ, here to sprea its evil with wanton disregard for those in its path, and it is still a bucket of poop without the bucket |
| alwazprotected | that was a weak come back hommie |
| buildinghead | hommie? i guess it is like mommie, seeing as you must live with yours cause no one can afford their own place on an AOL salary |
| alwazprotected | here we go again. I'm not complaining about my salary so why should you? I don't complain about your job when I walk into mcdonlds and see you there with that glazed minimum wage look on your face. |
| duannalee | Well, AOL never quits. Less than 2 months ago I had a zero balance when I cancelled. I recently got a 130-days past due collections notice for that bill I got afterwards! |
| maro6613 | Alwazprotected. I am a 17 year old college student, who is, I assure you, none too smart, making $75,000 a year, doing what I love (I work for an IT firm). You brag about your "over 40k"?Grow up, realize that people are entitled totheir opinions aboutAOL |
| donhector | I have tried several times to cancel my account and tell them to stop withdrawling money. We called at least 4 to 5 times and told them and yet every month it still is the same. WHAT IS THERE TO DO????? |
| miakhurley | i tried to cancel my aol account that i never even used 4 years ago and to this day i still receive phone calls from them telling me i am not paying my bill. |
| pipesmoker | Could anyone give me the phone number for customer service at AOL? My problem is ID thief. Someone stole one of my checks and used it to subscribe to AOL. I had reported the ID thief to the credit bureaus before AOL opened the account. |
| gooberspace | funny how the most obnoxious poster here is the one that works for AOL |
| bloodroses1 | I used to work at TSYS, which is a credit processing company. Customers from different banks would call to get help in cancelling their aol accounts and get the charge off the credit card statements. I would call Aol about 50-60 times a day,5 days a wk |
| bloodroses1 | I'd get transferred to other depts which had nothing to do with cancellation, and yes, the reps were almost always this rude! |
 | gordon | I think we all went through an AOL stage in our lifes, unfortunately AOL one of the only internet serivce providers available in various countries, not good. |
 | justcece | Below are AOL numbers to cancel your service and a dispute address to get your money back or credit corrected due to erroneous / over billing from AOL. 877-773-4462 / 800-827-6364 (AOL DISPUTES- mailing address AOL BILLING, OPERATIONS AT SERVICE, P O BOX 65627, STERLING, VA 20165-8805)
AOL definitely sucks and here's what happen to me.
I previously sign up for AOL through a free trail service with dial up capabilities. I verbally called and canceled. However, there's no telephonic proof of that. Several months later a debit came from my account. On May 02, 2007. I told them to cancel all my services, I have not been using that account at all. Of course, the representative was able to confirm that I have not been using that account for several months. She stated, that my cancellation effective that conversation. Again, in the month of June 26, 2007 another bill was debited out of my account for two payments. Today, I call 877-773-4462 (800-827-6364). I am informed that in May my account they bill me for monthly was unable to be verified for a cancellation request for AOL Services. She could see that I called but the representative but the conversation with me could not be verified for cancellation of AOL services. I explained to her I have Time Warner Cable with a digital phone (TWC) AOL suppose to be free with the package deal. Why am I getting billed $25.90. She offered me half price to continue the service. I re iterated to her it's free with roadrunner. However, I have not used it because I did not want any issues or erroneous billing. I asked her to explain why am I am being billed for free services. She stated I have to call and request for free services even though it is part of the TWC package deal with the digital phone service. I told her you are billing me monthly for an account I do not use and does not have dial up capability because I have a digital phone. It's ridiculous that they feel they have to rip off a servicemember for service not being used or should not be billing. It's double tapping. She gave me this address for AOL DISPUTES- mailing address AOL BILLING, OPERATIONS AT SERVICE, P O BOX 65627, STERLING, VA 20165-8805. The representative inform me she put me in for free aol services as on today because of the package deal. However, to get my money back I would have to write to the above address. If I have a record on file that I called in May to the cancellation department surely it's about canceling my service. After all, Why else do people call that division. Further evidence is the none use of the user name or any AOL service over several months. it's a no brainer. Only thing I can see is that AOL is willing to steal money whether you use their service or not. They make it very difficult to cancel your service or to get your money back. A long process. But it is one I am willing to take because it is morally wrong and an injustice to the consumer. Most people let it slide because of the time and that's exactly what they bank on to keep your money. AOL are you that desperate to make money? It most definitely sucks. I will never used their services again. Sending an email is free, expedient and convenient way to cancel your AOL Services. But that's not an option for AOL. AOL want to prolong the process. Telephonic ally, if you call make sure you get a confirmation number for your cancellation and close or change your account number before they rob you blind.

 | sprdv1 | Sorry everybody is having such a time cancelling. I called 800-827-6364 and was directed to an ARU, which in one minute switched me to an operator, I gave her the answers to my secutity questions which yook another 2 minutes, she gave me a 20 second sales pitch, gave me my cancellation confirmation number and that was it. In less than 4 minutes I cancelled my account. I really thought that I would run into a barrel full of idiocy but to no avail, I didn't. |
 | goldenhedges | We hadn't used our AOL account for at least 3 years, so cancelled it. Well, it took us another year before we finally got wise and cancelled our credit card since although we spoke to many, many people at AOL every single month, no one actually cancelled the account even though they promised to. The banker who cancelled our credit card told us that she is always doing this for people because of AOL and did if for free for us because AOL are crooks. So now we have their collection agency chasing us every month since they can't charge our defunct credit card. It's insane and illegal- AOL was stealing our money every month. They are threatening to tarnish our excellent credit now that we refuse to give them another credit card for their service which we cancelled at least 20 times. |
